Forget Tom chasing Jerry; kids today are more obsessed with who has the coolest cartoon avatar. The latest battleground for animators is virtual reality, with Nickelodeon set to launch a virtual world based on its Spongebob Squarepants character. The site, featuring games, avatars and social networking, will compete with rival brands such as Disney’s Club Penguin and Toontown.
