Microsoft's cool green plan

In a bid to sell itself as environmentally-friendly, Microsoft has begun construction on a massive data centre the size of eight football fields in Chicago. The site, developed by green experts Ascent with the Koman group,  makes use of state-of-the-art energy conservation measures. Airside economization which refers to the use of cold air cooling options in the winter has been used and Chicago chosen due to its freezing cold winters. This will be the first IT project of this size for the city where thousands of servers will be located at the US$500 million centre.
