Ask and you may erase
01/01/2008
As social networking sites continue to push the boundaries on privacy, Ask’s Eraser privacy tool offers a welcome alternative. Users are given the chance to choose whether IP addresses and search queries are stored by the search engine. Clicking an option on the home page creates a cookie which tells the search engine not to retain any information. The cookie lasts 24 months. Once enabled, AskEraser remains on across multiple visits and sessions as well as across Ask’s other search verticals: Images, News, Blogs, Video, and Maps & Directions. It doesn’t apply to third party applications.
