Tech makers join hands with developers

In a radical departure from previous practice, Apple, MySpace and Nokia will allow third parties to develop applications for them. Plans were announced by all three at the recent Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco . Clearly picking up on the success of rival Facebook which has led in this area, Chris DeWolfe, chief executive of MySpace said applications must be “safe and secure and pass a certain level of value to get on the site”. Meanwhile, Nokia which unveiled a new wireless multimedia device without a phone, the Nokia N810, said that applications written by users would be made available for anyone to download via Ovi, the company’s internet services platform. Steve Jobs, chief executive for Apple, also said he wanted to develop a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone, enabling hundreds of new applications for users.
