Auntie goes commercial
01/11/2007
Advertising will be allowed on bbc.com, the BBC’s international online service visible only to users outside the UK, the BBC Trust has announced. Initially, this will be limited to a subset of pages on the existing website, including the home page and some news, sport, weather, science and nature pages. Further plans are for a natural history portal, international versions of the iPlayer and selected programme websites such as Top Gear. bbc.com will pay the BBC for the rights and services it uses. News is expected to benefit most from this given the high percentage of international traffic it attracts.
