Wirelessly connected dream homes soon a reality
01/09/2007
A groundbreaking new technology dubbed UWB (ultra wide-band) which has the capacity to connect PCs, mp3 players and digital cameras together without wires has been approved by Ofcom. The new legislation will mean UK users will not need a licence to use UWB devices. UWB uses part of the radio spectrum to transfer large amounts of data, such as media files, over short distances. Data can be shifted over distances of around 30m at up to 2 gigabits per second. Experts say that UWB could bring the connected digital home out of the realm of dreams into reality.
