Slim overtakes Gates

Carlos “Slim” Helu has raced ahead of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the world’s richest man. Shares in Slim's mobile phone empire, America Movil, surged by 27% in the second quarter of 2007, pushing his wealth up to $67.8 bn according to the Sentido Comun’s business rich-list published last month. Slim's fortune, made in telecoms, banking, and tobacco, climbed $19bn in 12 months. In the Forbes Billionaires List, published in June, Slim ranks third ($49bn), behind Gates ($56bn) and Buffett ($52bn).
