Will iPhone live up to its promise?

01/07/2007

As The Leveller went to press, Apple’s iPhone was due to go on sale in the US. The much-awaited device, a mobile phone crossed with touchscreen web-browser, personal assistant and multimedia player, will be available in two versions, priced at $499 for a 4GB version and $599 for an 8GB model. Touchscreen access which enables users to activate the phone and scroll through music files and emails without using a keyboard currently distinguishes it  from the competition. YouTube videos can also be viewed on the phone via an Apple-built application. While some are warning that iPhone will be too pricey, complex and overloaded with features to succeed, others believe that Apple’s brand power alone will definitely ensure that it becomes a bestseller.
