Can Brown be more web-savvy than Blair?
01/06/2007
As Gordon Brown prepares to take over as Prime Minister, early signs suggest he may be more digitally savvy than his predecessor. Despite once being accused by David Cameron of being ‘an analogue politician in a digital age’, Brown recently let slip that he not only has an iPod, but knows how to use it (presumably for listening to the Arctic Monkeys). He has launched a leadership campaign website at http://www.gordonbrownforbritain.com, complete with blogs by Oona King. But Brown still needs to capture the imagination of the web-going public. Tony Blair, although a self-confessed technophobe, was an online hit for his Comic Relief sketch with Catherine Tate. David Cameron has tried his best to target the MySpace generation with webcameron. Mind you, Brown could not do any worse than some members of the judiciary: take Judge Peter Openshaw who reportedly said during a trial last month: “I don’t really understand what a website is.”
