Google Alumni: Where are they now?
01/07/2007
Google is, by internet standards, a martyr company and as the corporation loses its kooky 'dot-com beanbags and diet coke' image, it also seems to have lost some of it's most talented workers who have gone in search of start-ups in order to exercise their entrepreneurial muscles. Since Google's share price reached a record high at the end of June, it suggests that the stock simply does not offer the same potential gain as perhaps a strong internet start-up offering riches from a stock offering or a buy-out.
Some notable moves include:
- Rosenstein, 24, Google Engineer - now senior engineer at Facebook
- Fox, 34, Google Product Manager - now at Zillow.com (online real-estate start-up)
- Taylor & Norris (both 26), Google Engineers who created Google Maps - now working on their own start-up
Pascale Perry, also on our search team, doesn't think this will weaken Google dominance though, as so much momentum has been built up, it will take it a long time to slow it down (She's predicting they'll receive over 2 million CV's this year). Instead, she recommends we look out for where the Google engineers and product managers are heading after Google - as these might be the sites dominating online space in the near future.
