Image Search Optimisation

01/07/2007

Over the past month, we've seen a lot of updates about image search. There've been a couple of articles about how sites can use Yahoo's Flickr in their natural search strategy by adding optimised descriptions and keywords to images. Making your images and even your profile name more keyword-related in the process will improve it even further. http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/014067.htmlAn issue with many a SEO over the year was how sites using Flash and Image Replacements could be optimised, while adhering to best practice guidelines too. Well, some of the arguments were settled when Google officially released info on how they deal with Flash content. A couple of people in the Natural Search team also mentioned that a commonly used technique is "sIFR" or (scalable Inman Flash Replacement) which lets non-Flash readers read a page, since the content/navigation is actually in the html, displaying as an embedded Flash object. And it's now official. This variation is accepted by Google's guidelines, as shown on their recent release at - http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007/07/best-uses-of-flash.html
