Searching Beyond Video
01/09/2007
Taking search a step further news provider Reuters has worked with Viewdle to increase its video search capabilities. Viewdle uses facial recognition technology to scan video clips frame by frame to associate actual imagery with people in their database. Once a person's picture is recognised by the engine, all other clips featuring the same person will be indexed by their name. This also works with backgrounds and objects. Initially, only famous people are being indexed, but should this prove to be successful, it might work well for gossip and entertainment magazines too, as they could produce customised celebrity-based content for registered users.
